Ready to explore the art of photographing mothers and babies? Join Photopia and Dubai-based Lama Kabbani for a comprehensive 2-day class on everything you need to know about pregnancy and newborn portraiture. 

Posing newborns is a delicate art. Capturing those stunning images that will live on in a family's photo album forever is a stressful job. But those who can safely create a comfortable, professional experience are well rewarded.


During live photo shoots, Lama will show you how to work with pregnant moms, babies and toddlers, and new families. You’ll learn how to wrap babies and how to work with a variety of props — from buckets to fabrics. Lama will also cover essential techniques for safely posing and photographing babies, toddlers, including how to delight your pregnant clients with luminous photographs from lighting and posing basics to the intricacies of working with a fan and fabric.

The skills you learn in this course will give you the confidence and skills you need to give start a exploring this wonderful photography business.


Day 1: Newborns & Families

0930-1030: Intro and creating the right environment with Q&A’s
1030-1100: Getting the sellable shot in half an hour (without/with parents)
1100-1115: Q&A and break
1115-1230: Newborn on Bean Bag
1230-1300: Q&A and break
1300-1400: Newborn with props (baskets, crates, nest, barrel)
1400-1500: Wrapping techniques
1500-1530: Q&A and break
1530-1630: Newborn with toddler/siblings/parents
1630-1700: Wrap up

Day 2: Maternity & Families

0930-1030: Maternity 101 & creating the right environment with Q&A’s
1030-1045: Clothing option
1045-1115: Maternity Transitional posing – natural light
1115-1145: Maternity with fan and fabrics – studio lighting
1145-1215: Q&A and break
1215-1245: Couple Maternity Monochrome
1245-1330: Maternity with Silhouettes and back lighting (alone)
1330-1400:Maternity with Silhouettes and back lighting (toddler/family). 
1400-1500: Q&A and break
1500-1540:Maternity and family – natural light 
1540-1630: Maternity and Family – Studio light
1630-1700: Wrap up

Attendee Level: Confident beginner & above: You are familiar with aperture, shutter, ISO and understand how these work together to create a correct exposure. You shoot in Aperture or Shutter Priority modes and can use the basic features on your digital camera confidently.You have a basic understanding of the entry-level image adjustment features of Photoshop and can apply simple enhancements to your work (i.e. saturation, contrast, brightness..etc).
